Welcome to our November club news round-up which aims to showcase what has been going on in English Water Polo clubs over the last month. If you have any news that you would like to share about your club please contact me, Anne Huck, at ah@waterpoloengland.org.
This month has seen some exciting Water Polo played by our younger players at the ASA National Age Group competitions (under 15s) on 15/16 October. In the Girl’s competition, Otter successfully defended its title conceding only 4 goals across 5 games to take gold position. Newton Abbot Swimming & Water Polo club took the silver medal position with impressive wins against Otter Futura, City of Liverpool, Rotherham and Tyldesley. Tyldesley took the bronze medal position.
In the Boy’s completion, the City of Manchester Academy Boy’s Team were crowned champions following a thrilling penalty shoot out against Caledonia in the final. Caledonia took silver and the bronze medal position went to Ealing WPC. This was Ealing’s first top three finish ever so very well done to them – a team to watch for the future.
The British Water Polo League season is hotting up with the final Men’s Dision 1 matches to be played on 19/20 November at Lancaster Salt Ayre. Caledonia are already guaranteed a place in the Super 5s. In the Women’s Division 1 City of Coventry, Liverpool Lizards, City of Manchester and Otter have already booked their places in the women’s Super 5s. The fifth spot will be decided on 26/27 November at Liverpool. Further information can be found at the BWPL website – www.bwpl.org or on Twitter @BWPL_org
Last month we reported on the success of Bridgefield Water Polo club under 13 team as they won the Liverpool & District Mini Polo Festival for the 3rd year running. This month we can report that they have gone on to win the B&D Mini Polo KO Cup Final against Tydesley. Well done them!
The Cheshire Mini Water Polo Festival took place this month at Orford. The event was attended by eight teams aged 12 and under from all over the north of England. The gold spot was taken by Sedgefield with silver to Bridgefield and bronze to Chester Romans.
City of Coventry is trying to recruit new players. Please see the flier and if you know anyone in the Coventry area who may be interested in trying out this excellent game please point them in Coventry’s direction.
Barnsley Water Polo is also trying to attract new members. It is offering 4 free sessions to strong swimmers aged 15+ at the Barnsley Metrodome on Sundays at 7 pm. More info here.
And finally for this month, hats off to Leeds Sharks who have helped promote Aldi’s Sensations Shampoo in a commercial for the supermarket on socials…
“Have you tried our Sensations shampoo? It’s highly recommended by the Leeds Sharks Water Polo Club. So much so, we decided to send them a team supply to keep them on their A-game.
That’s… sensational!”
