Concerns over Sport England funding for water polo, Ian Elliot responds - February 22, 2017

Questions have been raised by members of the polo community who are concerned about the level of Sport England funding for water polo over the next cycle 2017-2021, due to be announced shortly. We put their questions to both Ian Elliot, volunteer Chair of the ASA’s water polo management group and to Suzy Stevenson, the ASA’s water polo manager.

Ian Elliot has advised us, “The bid for Sport England Funding has been submitted this week and will be considered by the Sport England board in March. We are aware that the funding from Sport England has been reduced or withdrawn for other sports and that future funding for water polo may be significantly reduced.”

We have not yet had a response from the ASA but will publish it here when available.

We hope that this is helpful, and of course as soon as Sport England publishes its determination of what funding will be provided to support England Water Polo we will make that information available here.
