Something to chew over with your cold turkey…UK Sport has recently published a report from Sheffield Hallam University which examines the impact of Olympic sports on the UK economy, including figures for the impact of UK water polo.
According to the report; in 2014 we had 15,733 adult water polo participants (no mention of any polo-playing U16s in the report) and, directly & indirectly, the sport contributed £20million to the UK economy on a total sport turnover of £49million.
Although, according to the report, water polo’s impact is dwarfed by other well-funded sports, one wonders how much more of a contribution the sport could make in the future with some funding…
