The Water Polo Management Group is delighted to announce that we have organised an exciting afternoon of games on Saturday 12 May, to take place before the U19s resume their qualification battle against Ukraine later that evening.
The Management Group is keen to create a water polo development legacy from hosting major international events like the LEN Euro Qualifiers, and so our Polo Bears will commence proceedings with a mini-polo tournament at 12.30 on Saturday. After the game the Polo Bears will get the opportunity to meet with the senior players, and pick up some top tips for their future in the game.
England’s men will then take on Scotland at 13.30, in what proved to be an edge-of-the-seat battle this time last year. Team Manager Dave King said, “The England senior men’s squad look forward to re-playing the oldest International fixture in World Water Polo. We are delighted to participate in what we hope will be a wonderful festival of water polo at East Manchester Leisure Centre on 11th -13th May.
Our opponents Scotland provided a very strong challenge last year, with the game decided on penalties. The game provides England with a tough test before we travel to Prague the following week for the EU Nations. We wish every success to the England 1999 age group men in their qualification tournament and hope to see many of them join us as seniors in the near future.”
Dave has certainly got his work cut out, not only looking after the England men, but also watching his son, London 2012 Olympian Sean King, lead the U19 men in their LEN qualification tournament!
Scotland’s manager, Ian Melville said, “The Scotland men’s team are currently building and training toward the Commonwealth competition in Malta in September. The team for this match against England men will feature a mix of youth and experience as the squad for Malta is being determined.”
Following the men’s game, Great Britain’s senior women will take on their World University Games GBR team in what promises to be a spectacular senior finale at 14.45. Theo Nousios, the senior women’s Head Coach said, “The game is a great chance to see the condition of all the players at the beginning of very important 18 months for GB women leading to European qualification in 2020.”
