Mixed outcome for our GBR teams in 2019 World Uni Games selection - February 7, 2019

There has been a mixed reaction to the announcement by FISU that our GBR men’s team has been selected to attend the Napoli 2019 Summer Universiade but unfortunately our women’s team has only been placed on the reserve list.

Chair of the Water Polo Management Group Ian Elliot told us, “We have very mixed feelings about the news; obviously pleased that our GBR men will be competing at the event but very disappointed that as things stand our GBR women’s team are currently reserves. Despite this disappointment, England’s women’s team will be competing in Brno, CZE in the EU Nations in May, with the men’s event in June, and of course we will be planning additional competitive opportunities for both senior teams going forward.”

28 Feb 2019 update: here is official confirmation from BUCS that our GB women’s water polo team is the first reserve for this summer’s World University Games in Naples, Italy.
