Bringing a little cheer to us all, it’s our monthly water polo club news! -

Welcome to our October edition of Water Polo News.  It has been another busy month with teams cramming in some last-minute pre-season training and the start of the BWPL.  We look on enviously at those clubs that have combined pre-season training with trips abroad.

At the beginning of September, Tyldesley took their women’s team to Malta to train with local club Silema Arkadia.   The squad were put through their paces in the amazing outdoor facilities in the seaside resort of St Julian’s.  What a fabulous experience.

Otter have been competing in the Barcelona International Water Polo Academy’s Champions Cup in the iconic Barcelona pool high up above the city.  Otter beat Sirens but lost narrowly to professional team Sabadell to get though to the finals.   After some tough matches Otter took the silver medals.  An amazing achievement – well done.

The first weekend of September saw Cheltenham S&WPC’s water polo squads heading to the Netherlands for the annual Oosterhout water polo tournament.  Over 35 players represented Cheltenham in two men’s and one of the woman’s competitions.  Looks like you all had an amazing time!

West London Penguin have sent their men’s first team to Naples for their pre-season training cap where they are hosted by Circolo Canottieri Napoli.    What a fantastic venue!

Turning to the British Water Polo League, Watford Ladies had a great first weekend in Division 3 with a 10-10 draw against Kirkintilloch & Kilsyth followed by a win against Sheffield Stingrays.

Watford Saxons got off to a great start by beating City of Coventry 11-7.  The squad included two juniors making their debut – welcome to Aksel Gerhardstein and Dylan Munday.

Penguin Emperors suffered a narrow defeat in their first game of the season but rallied to win their second match.  Great start.

The summer has been one of success for the Hillingdon Penguin U13s after finishing as runners-up in Division 1 of the LWPL Summer Champs.  Special congratulations to Zain Garnie and Zayd Khan who were recognised as Hillingdon Penguin’s Most Valuable Players by their coach.

More success, this time for West London Penguin under 15s from the Latimer section who won their division in the London Water Polo League Summer Championships.

Defending BWPL Women’s champions, City of Manchester, got of to an excellent start at the first weekend of the league beating Tyldesley 18-6 and Coventry 9-7.
