Welcome to our August News. Although this is calm period before the start of the BWPL in September, clubs have been busy playing friendly matches with neighbours and embarking on overseas training camps. July also saw the military Inter Services Water Polo Championships. Congratulations to the Army who were this year’s worthy women’s champions with a team that included seven newly capped players.
There was an upset in the Men’s game as the RAF defeated the Army who were the defending champions in an exhilarating match that ended 15-13 to the RAF. Very well done to both teams.
Watford Water Polo Juniors have been on a summer training camp based at the iconic Olympic Kantrida pool in Croatia. As well as training in these fabulous surroundings the juniors have toured the area and played against local teams.
Back in the UK, the Hertfordshire 2023 Knock Out water polo tournament took place in the outdoor pool at Letchworth. Congratulations to Enfield’s first team who were the tournament winners.
The London League has also continued during the summer and in Division 1 Chelmsford and Watford played a tough match with Chelmsford winning the match 15-10.
On the social side, Hillingdon Water Polo Club celebrated the end of the season with a Summer Party and awards evening. The club has had a great year and has a lot to celebrate. Congratulations to all the award winners.
Special congratulations Hillingdon’s Tuline and Sam who were awarded the Jack Petchey achievement award for their team work and leadership in both training and tournaments.
The Sevenoaks Senior team have been keep match fit this month by arranging friendly matches with local teams. The team narrowly lost against Crawley (8-9), narrowly defeated Brighton (13-14), and fell to Hastings (7-10).
Great to see City of Manchester Coach, Dan Paddon, helping Sale Sharks Rugby pre-season training by teaching them about water polo!
