Welcome to our October edition of Water Polo News. It has been another busy month with teams cramming in some last-minute pre-season training and the start of the BWPL. We look on enviously at those clubs that have combined pre-season training with trips abroad.
At the beginning of September, Tyldesley took their women’s team to Malta to train with local club Silema Arkadia. The squad were put through their paces in the amazing outdoor facilities in the seaside resort of St Julian’s.
It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Gordon Dacre in August.
Gordon was a water polo legend in the North West and beyond. His playing career was with Everton, a club which featured in the top division of the former men’s National League from 1972 to 1986. He then retired from playing to concentrate on coaching for his beloved Liverpool City Water Polo Club where he developed many fine players including a number of Olympians.
What a good month to play a water-based sport – especially for those who have had access to an outdoor pool! As the temperatures soar what better way to cool off than train in one of our open-air lidos or travel abroad for some European sun. Wherever you are spending your summer we hope that you are having a good time and are keeping safe. Below we highlight what some of our clubs have been up to in July.
