With sadness we mark the passing on July 11th 2017 of Leonard Beatty, well known polo referee and administrator.
Leo was a stalwart of both Yorkshire ASA, having been President on three occasions, and the NE Region of which he was elected President in 1999. Leo officiated and organised referees across the spectrum of polo in England including National Champs and the forerunner of BWPL, the men’s National League, and his commitment to the sport was recognised nationally with multiple awards.
It’s summer (well it’s supposed to be) and July has been a busy month with water polo tournaments and festivals at home and away.
The recent FINA Water Polo World Championships in Budapest attracted the interest of a number of English clubs with players from Cheltenham, Beckenham, Enfield, Otter, London Penguin, Crystal Palace and Hatfield among the confirmed attendees (in the stands!).

Local Leagues
With the conclusion of National club competitions, many local leagues have come to the fore over the last month.
The Midlands Water Polo league is well underway in its second month and as at the time of going to press Solihull are just in the lead with Warley Wasps A following closely behind.
