With sadness we mark the passing on July 11th 2017 of Leonard Beatty, well known polo referee and administrator.
Leo was a stalwart of both Yorkshire ASA, having been President on three occasions, and the NE Region of which he was elected President in 1999. Leo officiated and organised referees across the spectrum of polo in England including National Champs and the forerunner of BWPL, the men’s National League, and his commitment to the sport was recognised nationally with multiple awards.
We are grateful to Leo’s friend and colleague, Chris Freebury, for his full account of Leo’s life, both in and out of polo, which is available to read here.
