Ian Elliot calls for a new focus for international water polo - July 11, 2019

Water Polo Management Group Chair Ian Elliot has spoken of his delight at the performances of the Great Britain BUCS squad at the World University Games in Naples.

Watching from poolside, Ian commented, “I’m immensely proud of all the players and coaches as they have shown what great potential we have as a water polo nation.

“The improvement in the squad and results as the tournament progressed proves how valuable competing regularly at top class international tournaments is.

“The opposition here are all focused on Olympic, European or World League qualification and that has to be the next step for our men’s and women’s senior national teams.

“Our performances against USA, France and Japan were outstanding at times and with the right structure in place, we could have been even more competitive.

“It’s time to focus on all our national teams – men and women – and put the right programme in place where European qualification is a viable target.”
