Our monthly England water polo club news is out! - October 1, 2021
Welcome to our monthly news round-up in which we aim to showcase what has been going on in water polo clubs around the country.
September saw the water polo season commence, and what an exciting return we have witnessed!
To get back into the water polo mindset, many teams held friendlies with other local clubs at the start of September – it was great to see so many people enjoying local games and seeing friends they haven’t seen in a while. Clubs that have reported friendlies include,= City of Liverpool, City of Manchester, Seven Oaks water polo, Watford women’s and West London Penguin.

There has also been a considerable amount of non-league action. First up in London there was the Charlie Thurley Cup, a round-robin tournament in which 5 teams from across London entered. We’re unsure who won, but congratulations to all who took part.

The London League Hybrid Championship is back. Congratulations to Watford Men’s First team who won their first game against London Polytechnic Water Polo Men’s team 14-7.
BWPL started off in mid-September with the qualifications for women’s division 3 and men’s play-off for the last place in division 1. In the men’s play-off after victories on the first day Welsh Wanderers beat Watford Woodside 10-8 to claim the final spot. In the women’s qualification tournament 7 teams battled it out with St Andrews qualifying in first, Manchester Comets qualifying in second, Liverpool Water Beetles coming third and all earning places in division 3 BWPL. Congratulations to all teams that took part in what sounded like a very tight weekend of action.
Bravo to our young Penguins, winners of the Under 12 Water Polo Development Tournament promoted by South-East London. Well done to all the participating teams, Lewisham, Croydon Amphibians and Sutton & Cheam.

The Midland Water Polo League has also got going this month. With 13 games played so far Northampton Youth A team is currently coming up trumps with a full house of wins.
BWPL Men’s division 4 and 5 have also been in action, with Southampton being the early leaders after a weekend of play in division 4 in Crawley and Invicta Marlins in division 5 in Walsall.
Congratulations are also in order for Beckenham for winning the Sean King Shield.

All of the women’s divisions in the BWPL were in action this weekend at a fantastic event that saw 24 teams competing at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. In division 3, Otter Lutra are looking very strong with their young team, currently leading the standings after 2 games. Welsh Wanderers were the only team to win both their games in division 2 and are currently leading. In division 1 there was some early controversy with Otter fielding an unregistered player in their game against Tyldesley on Saturday nullifying their result. However, they did well to bounce back with a hard fought win over Liverpool 10-8 on Sunday. Manchester continued their dominance and are currently top the League after being the only team to secure 2 victories over the weekend.

Faversham have been back for some months now and introduced a mini section , which already have over 20 attending . We also now have a full ladies team abd have entered the London league for the first time ever . The juniors section is buzzing with over 30 members and senior men are back competing in the Kent league . Do you need pictures

Thanks for your comment. We suggest Hitchin on a Sunday night (beginners really), Bedford, Dunstable, or Cambridge. Alternatively Watford or Enfield or Milton Keynes but these would be a bit more of a drive for you. You should be able to find contact details on the relevant club’s website.
