This has been another exciting month with City of Manchester pulling off an amazing double victory in the Super 5s as their men’s and women’s teams won their respective super 5 crowns. The men’s event came down to a thrilling finale with City of Manchester playing Polytechnic for a winner takes all showdown. City of Manchester secured a 15-12 victory over last year’s champions to take the crown while Sutton & Cheam secured their place in the Champions Cup with a 5-9 victory over Cheltenham and Welsh Wanderers took the third spot.

In the women’s event, City of Manchester and Liverpool Lizards entered the final weekend unbeaten. To maintain the drama they faced each other in the final match of the season. It was Manchester’s day and they defeated Liverpool Lizards 14 to 8 to win the Super5s for the 5th time in a row. A truly amazing achievement.

Coventry women qualified for the women’s Champions Cup in May by defeating Sheffield Sharks and Otter took the final place with a 13-14 victory over Sheffield.

West London Penguin senior men won Championship 1 ending the competition undefeated. Congratulations also to Watford who came second and Sheffield who came in third.

Sedgefield defeated Southampton 20-17 to win the Championship 2 title. They were also undefeated in their campaign! Invicta beat Hucknall 15-13 to secure second place while the third promotion spot to Division 2 went to Worthing, 16-3 winners against Manchester Hawks.

 

 

 

 

 

In Women’s Championship 1, Hucknall defeated Cheltenham 11-8 to win the crown for the third time in six years.

Exeter beat Rotherham Metro to finish second. The third place was taken by Tyldesley Ladies Water Polo team who return to Division 1 of the Water Polo League next season after a year out of the top division.

In other events, West London Penguin’s U16 mixed team won their Inter County Championships for the fourth year in a row! Very well done to them.

Watford Water Polo women’s 1st team are the inaugural National Conference League Champions. The team won all seven league fixtures scoring 114 goals in the process. Southampton Sirens were second and Kirkintilloch and Kilsyth were third.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Well done to West London Penguins U18 boys who won the London League.

The National Age Group Championship (NAGs) U17 boys and girls qualification rounds took place this month. In the boys’ event 14 teams entered the competition with the top two teams from Group A and the Group B and C winners qualifying for the finals weekend on 20/21 April 2024. West London Penguin topped group A with Caledonia qualifying second.

City of Manchester u17 boys won all their matches to qualify for the finals after topping group B, while Cheltenham topped Group C.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the girls’ event, Worthing and Cheltenham qualified from Group A. In Group B City of Manchester were unbeaten and ended top of their group.

 

West London Penguin won all three of their matches to qualify from Group B.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Enfield Water Polo Club’s ongoing success. The north London-based club are in a considerable position of strength, after recently winning the London League Referee’s Cup, and have multiple men’s senior teams, a women’s team and a large junior squad that compete at various levels across the London and Hertfordshire Summer and Winter Leagues.
The club has great potential and are now seeking a passionate and experienced Water Polo Coach to lead and develop our water polo programme, and the successful candidate will receive a weekly paid sum for their services.

The new Head Coach will be responsible for training, mentoring, and inspiring all Enfield Water Polo Club members to ensure they achieve their full potential in the pool.

Requirements:
• Relevant water polo coaching qualifications
• Ability to motivate and encourage water polo players of all abilities and ages
• Knowledge and experience in delivery of water polo programmes
Role:
• To attend training sessions on Wednesdays at Southgate Leisure Centre N14 (8.45-10pm)
• To coach competitive teams during home and away matches (home games are played on Mondays at QE Boys School, Barnet, 8.30-10pm)
• To deliver quality planned sessions to improve water polo players across all age groups – from under 12s through to senior players
• To develop a training programme and mentor assistant coaches who can help execute its delivery
• To manage progression between teams

And finally, great to see West London Penguin’s Nobby Neivans who is still in the water aged 98! Mr Neivens was one of the great Penguin Players of his time. You are an inspiration Mr Neivens!
