Welcome to our April edition of Water Polo News, and this month we have some good reasons to be optimistic about the future. The sun is out and we have started the journey out of lockdown. Schools are back and pupils are able to participate in some training. From 12 April we can start swimming indoors on an individual basis and from 17 May, assuming that the coronavirus pandemic remains under control, we will see the return to full water polo training in indoor pools.
Great to hear Graham Harrington, GB player, World University Games 2017 participant and Warley Wasps stalwart providing his thoughts live on Black Country Radio about all things water polo.
As an antidote to the usual football chat on James Vukmirovic’s sports show, Graham talked about Warley Wasps’s success in the Midlands, getting back in the pool and of course the prospect of 2022 Commonwealth Games coming to the West Midlands.
Our route back!
This month we at least have more reason to be optimistic that a return to water polo training is round the corner, albeit not quite as close as many of us hoped. The timetable announced by the government is set out in the table below.
The timetable is subject to the caveat that the number of Covid-19 infections remains under control. Assuming this is the case outdoor swimming pools and lidos should open from 29 March.
