What an exciting month February has been as we have been revelling in the success of the British Senior Women at the 2024 Water Polo World Championships in Doha!
Coached by Nick Buller with Peggy Etiebet AC and Rose Younger TM in support, the team achieved their initial goal of finishing in the top 3 of their group at the Worlds, and then went on to defeat South Africa and Kazakhstan to finish with their highest ever finish in 11th place.
Welcome to our February News. In the News we usually concentrate on what clubs have been up to in England over the last month or so. However, this month we would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the GB Senior Women’s team who have proved that they are among the elite teams in Europe after their performance in the LEN European Championships that took place in Eindhoven in January. The team took 3 wins from 3 matches in the group stage and went on to finish 7th overall losing only to the Netherlands (World Champions) and Hungary (Olympic bronze medallists).
Happy New Year to everyone and wishing you a wonderful New Year full of exciting water polo!
Even though it isn’t strictly club news, nevertheless we couldn’t start our New Year’s newsletter without wishing our amazing Great Britain’s senior women’s team all the very best for their forthcoming European Championships in Eindhoven which starts on Friday 4th Jan. It’s been a decade since Great Britain competed in the continent’s showpiece tournament, and it is a fantastic start for the New Year for Home Nation water polo.
